Daphne Music Guide

Music is a big part of the culture as well as the night life in Daphne. There are plenty of local bands playing various venues in town, and if you're up for a short drive out to Mobile or another of the neighboring cities, you can find even more options. As long as a short ride in the car is an option, you should have no problem finding some live music in the Daphne area that you'll enjoy.

The main influences on the Daphne music scene are Jazz and Blues, but there is some Southern Rock and Country in there as well. Touring bands from all over the region and even the state play some of the trendy venues in town and just across the bay in Mobile. Also, there is always an opportunity to catch one of the up and coming local sensations, which can make for a fun and enjoyable evening out on the town.

One great place for catching some live music in Mobile is John Word's Restaurant and Jazz Cafe. Only about a 9 mile drive from Daphne, John Word's has Jazz shows that start at 8pm every night and feature artists like Roy Meriwether and his trio, and Bobby van Deusen. If you're more of a classical fan, you can hit John Word’s a bit earlier for the nightly piano music that starts at 5pm. Moe's Original BBQ Restaurant is another excellent option for catching a local live music show and grabbing some great traditional southern BBQ while you're at it. This restaurant boasts a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with frequent Jazz and Blues performances by both local and nationally known artists. At Moe's you can get your fill of both great food and great music all at once.

If you're not in the mood for BBQ though, you can take a short ride up the road to Fairhope for a meal and some live music at the Fly Creek Cafe. With a prime view out over the Mobile Bay, this cozy cafe features good, if somewhat overpriced food and live local musicians performing every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday evening. The combination of the music and the sunset over the bay will make for an evening you'll never forget.

This is really only a sampling of the many venues in the area where it's possible to enjoy an evening of live music with or without a meal. This small venue setup is a real hallmark of the area and if you're lucky, you'll be able to catch some really stellar performances by local up and coming artists while you're in town.
